“AHYT Reborn” Drama Showcase
The African Heritage Youth Theatre (A.H.Y.T) presents a drama showcase titled, “AHYT Reborn.” The youth theatre production is on Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Wendell A. Narcisse Performing Arts Theater at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (AHCAC), 6161 NW 22nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33142. The performance begins 6:30 p.m. and will end at 8:00 p.m.
AHYT Reborn is a variety show with both classical and contemporary monologues, scenes, and musical theatre. This will be the company’s first performance in three years. The show includes selected scenes by William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Eric Coble, and Katori Hall. Also, poetry selections from Mari Evans and Tupac Shakur.
The African Heritage Youth Theatre is the in-house youth acting apprenticeship program at the AHCAC for ages, 9-18. Under the direction of Mrs. Jazmin Jones-Oliver and Ms. Yvonne Strachan, students in AHYT perform two main-stage productions, attend cultural excursions and performances, and participate in workshops and community service.
AHYT strives to develop members’ acting repertoire and enhance both technical and theatrical skills magnet schools and professional agencies desire. Private lessons are provided during the week and ensemble training takes place every weekend. Young thespians can be invited to join AHYT or audition. General admission for AHYT Reborn is $5.
