The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center presents “Art of a Spiritual” concert featuring Miami’s Black opera singers to celebrate Black History Month
(Miami, January 21, 2020) – The African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (AHCAC) celebrates Black History Month with “Art of a Spiritual,” a concert featuring Miami’s most accomplished Black opera singers performing African-American Spirituals on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. The concert will be held in the Sandrell Rivers Theater, 6103 NW 7th Ave, Miami, FL 33127.
The “Art of a Spiritual” concert highlights the technical complexity of the old Negro Spiritual, also known in modern times as the African-American Spiritual and celebrates the boldness of past generations while enlightening today’s youth. The concert features 15 songs performed by three of Miami’s Black opera singers: Kyaunnee Richardson, award-winning soprano who counts among her highest honors singing for President Barack Obama; Angel Refusé, baritone, soloist for the Miami Symphony Orchestra; Erica Williams, soprano, featured soloist in Mozart’s “Regina Coeli”; Isis Roberts, mezzo soprano and the Center’s Music Director; the Voices of Heritage, the Center’s apprenticeship vocal ensemble; and Karl Richardson, on piano.
